What is changing in your neighborhood? Start with the agenda.
How to follow a proposal from a public meeting notice to a documented decision.
A zoning request can affect a neighborhood long before a construction crew arrives. Public meeting records offer a way to follow the process without relying on a social media summary.
Find the right meeting
New Orleans maintains a City Planning meetings page with agendas, video and minutes. Jefferson Parish’s Agenda Center includes the Planning Advisory Board and Board of Zoning Adjustments. Start with the authority responsible for the address.
Build a short case note
- Record the case number, address, requested action and meeting date.
- Read the staff report and attachments when available; a meeting title rarely tells the whole story.
- Check the latest agenda for changes before attending. Confirm the participation instructions with the authority.
- After the hearing, look for the recorded action and any conditions. An agenda item is not an approval.
Share the record, with context
When posting to a neighborhood group, include the case number, source link and the date you checked it. Say whether you are sharing a request, recommendation or final action. Avoid presenting a proposed use as a committed business opening.
